We arrived in Prague the morning after a horrific night sleeping on the train. Needless to say, I was tired and crabby!
This leg of our trip we had decided to stay for a week as Matt has a football tournament to play in. I on the other hand had also arranged some tennis matches with few locals as well.
During the first couple of days we wandered all over old town Prague area, and checked out a few sites here and there.
We were staying about a 10 minute walk outside of old town, and right beside, no planning this, the Dancing House in Prague! This building looked very odd, and definitely stood out among the building surrounding it. This piece of art started in 1992 and was completed in 1996. It stands out among the old baroque, and gothic style buildings in Prague.
While walking around the neighbourhood, we came across a water pump, which actually pumps out water! I'm guessing its for drinking?
What was great about Prague is the abundance of street artists, live music, and concerts held daily. What was even more impressive is the venue of which the live music and concerts were held. Churches with hundreds of years of history hosts many orchestras and musical performances.
Our walk led us into the old town square and up the Old Town Hall Tower. The Tower also houses one of the most famous clocks in Europe, the Prague Astronomical Clock.
We walked up the tower to get a better view of the square, and it was definitely worth every penny. The view was amazing. You climb to the very top of the tower and there is a 360 degree balcony that you can walk around to see all of Prague.
One of the more prominent architecture was the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and the Church of Our Savior.
Also in the square is the Jan Hus Memorial. He is a national hero, a protestant who fought against the Catholic church for reform in Europe before Martin Luther.
This wandering gave us a good idea of what Prague was like, but we were set on going for a free tour of the city to get a better idea of its history.
Oh yes, and to finish the day off, I had the Czech Kolena, Pig's Knuckle! It was delicious!!
