Heineken Anyone?

Tuesday was Heineken day.

The trip to the old Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam was fantastic, and I highly recommend this for everyone. I think even if you're not a beer drinker, you can appreciate this awesome brewery turned museum facility!

The old brewery was a grand building made of bricks. The start of the tour goes through the history of the Heineken brand. How the company was started, how marketing played a crucial role in its success. Did you realize the three "e"s in Heineken are a bit slanted? They called it the smiling e.

The second part of the tour takes you into the old brewery and the tanks. A gentleman explaining how beer is made, letting you taste the barley, smell the hops... quite interesting. Apparently, Heineken still today, uses the same "Heineken A Yeast" to make the beer. The yeast itself are all from the Netherlands, and shipped to Heineken breweries abroad, to ensure quality and consistency!

Then you get to taste the "wort" which is a combination of barley boiled in water. It tasted like soy milk to me. LOL

You are then led into rooms, with a large screen, taking you through the fermentation process. This was then followed by making your own bottle with actual beer in it!! I will NEVER drink this bottle!

The trip ended with you sitting in a lounge, drinking free beer. Of course, there are limits, two each guest.

I have to admit, got a bit tipsy from the two beer. Mind you, I had two mini drinks during the midway of the tour as well, so really it was more like three beer in an hour!

This was definitely one of the many highlights of the trip!
